Bengals Odds Rise on Owens Signing
The Cincinnati Bengals made a bold move in acquiring controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens last week. T.O. will join the almost equally outspoken Chad Ochocinco on the receiving crew for at least one year. The hype that has come with the signing has been big enough to capture the attention of bookmakers, and future odds on the Bengals have been dropping since it was confirmed that T.O. would be joining the team.

The main reason that Owens has landed in Cincinnati this season is due to the knee injury suffered by Antonio Bryant. Bryant was the Bengals' first choice after Owens tried out for the team last March, but the injury has forced the hand of Bengals staff to get Owens on board for at least one year.
The signing has brought a lot of attention to the team, and the receiver combination should be a formidable obstacle for any defending team’s secondary to contend with - if quarterback Carson Palmer is able to keep all the egos on the field content. Palmer’s futures value will go way up with this combination at his disposal all season. Owens may not be what he once was, but the extra weapon he brings should be enough for Palmer to put up big numbers through the air.
The added air attack may make Cedric Benson less effective if his touches lessen this season under any new offensive philosophy that the Bengals may adopt. Ideally they will be looking to form a balanced attack both in the air and on the ground. Since T.O. has signed with the Bengals the futures odds on the team have changed considerably.
The odds for the Bengals to win the AFC Championship went from 18/1 all the way down to 13/1 at many books, and the odds for them to win the Super Bowl fell from 35/1 to 25/1.
The biggest concern for the Bengals this season will be the egos of these big-named players. As we’ve seen many times in the past, T.O. is a happy guy when he’s winning, but detrimental to a team when they’re facing adversity.
It’s highly unlikely that the Bengals will get through the season without coming up against adversity at least once. One thing is for sure, there will be lots of drama in Cincinnati this fall and you can bet on that as well at Bovada as they posted Owens and Ochocinco misbehavior odds.
