Brady Suspension: Pats Odds Removed

New England Patriots betting futures remain off the board at online sportsbooks including Bovada as of Monday night on news that quarterback Tom Brady was handed a four-game suspension by the league for the Deflategate scandal from last year's postseason.

The NFL also took a first-round draft pick in 2016 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2017 away from the Patriots and handed the team a $1 million fine to go along with Brady's banishment. The quarterback could still appeal the suspension in hopes of having it reduced to just two or three games.

If Brady's four-game suspension stands he will be on the sidelines for games against the Steelers (Week 1), Bills (Week 2), Jaguars (Week 3), and Cowboys (Week 5), before returning in Week 6 for a marquee matchup on Sunday Night Football on the road at Indianapolis. The Patriots have a bye in Week 4.

Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to start for the Patriots while Brady is suspended. Garoppolo has appeared in six games for New England in his career, completing 19 of his 27 pass attempts for 182 yards with one touchdown and zero INTs - for a QB Rating of 101.2.

Super Bowl odds and other NFL futures markets are expected to be re-opened Tuesday.

The Deflategate report released on Wednesday could result in discipline for New England quarterback Tom Brady, and as a result Patriots odds have been removed from some Las Vegas and online sportsbooks including Bovada.

And that includes the overall odds to win the Super Bowl, the odds to win the AFC conference title, and the odds to win the AFC East division title for the upcoming season. At Bovada New England had been at 15/2 to win the Super Bowl, 7/2 to win the AFC, and -200 to win the AFC East prior to Wednesday's report.

The NFL is reportedly considering discipline for Brady, after the Deflategate report from Ted Wells said that it was "more probable than not" that the deflation of the Patriots' footballs in last year's playoffs was done deliberately, and "more probable than not" that Brady was "at least generally aware" of the activity.

That could end up resulting in a suspension for Brady, which would affect at least the Patriots' odds to win the AFC East division title this season. At -200 the Patriots were well ahead of the Buffalo Bills (+500), Miami Dolphins (+500), and New York Jets (+900) on those division futures at Bovada earlier in the week.

New England's regular-season schedule gets underway on Thursday, September 10 when they play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium. Early lines for that primetime matchup had the Patriots as a 7-point favorite, but those odds will be off some boards until the NFL rules on Brady.
