After Broncos Blowout, Cowboys are Primed to Bounce Back vs Wounded Cardinals

The Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals were projected to be playoff contenders prior to the start of the season, but both teams have experienced mixed results two games into the campaign. The NFC clubs take center stage in the Week 3 edition of Monday Night Football.

Shark Bites
  • The Cardinals are 13-5 SU and 14-3-1 ATS in their last 18 games as an underdog of 3.5 or less.
  • The Cowboys are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games as favorite.
  • The Cowboys are 11-1 SU in their last 12 games in Week 3.

Sportsbooks opened the Cardinals as 3-point home underdogs with a total of 47.

The Cowboys got absolutely steamrolled at the hands of the Denver Broncos last week, falling to 1-1 on the year in the wake of a 42-17 setback. The Broncos outrushed the ’Boys 178-40 in the triumph, as star running back Ezekiel Elliott mustered up only eight yards on nine attempts. It was the lowest output by far in Elliott’s young career.

Dallas bettors shouldn’t expect that type of poor performance out of the Ohio State product again, but the Cowboys’ struggles in Arizona should be noted. In Dallas’s last eight trips to University of Phoenix Stadium, they’re a brutal 1-7 SU.

Simply put, the Cardinals are not the team we’ve grown accustomed to seeing in the Carson Palmer era. The injury to David Johnson has severely impacted the Cards’ chances of contending in 2017, and the three-headed backfield of Chris Johnson, KerSportsbook Williams and Andre Ellington isn’t scaring anyone.

At 37, Palmer is showing his age and Larry Fitzgerald is not far behind him. If the Cardinals are going to have a shot in this one, their defense will need to step up early and slow down the duo of Elliott and Prescott like Denver did. That’s easier said than done, however.

The OVER has paid out in one of Arizona’s first two games, and bettors banking on high-scoring games will likely be paying attention to this one. Dating back to last year, the OVER is 8-1 in the Cardinals’ last nine affairs.
