Denver Broncos Betting Odds Preview

The Denver Broncos were arguably the best team in the NFL through most of the season last year. That was until they got to the Super Bowl and got trounced by the Seattle Seahawks.

Denver will try to make another run at the Vincent Lombardi Trophy with an equally impressive offense and a few upgrades on defense that may put them over the top if everything falls into place.

Behind a seemingly never aging Peyton Manning the Broncos easily had the top offense in the NFL last season. Manning shattered more NFL records with 5477 yards and 55 touchdowns, as the Broncos averaged 37.9 points per game. Manning lost one of his favorite targets after Eric Decker headed to the Jets, but with Emmanuel Sanders joining Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker no one may even notice.

With Manning setting records left and right last season the running game didn’t garner a whole lot of attention. Still, Knowshon Moreno quietly rushed for 1038 yards and 10 touchdowns. He left town for Miami in the offseason, leaving the rushing duties to Ronnie Hillman and Montee Ball.

Where Denver needed the most help after last season was obviously defense. While Denver’s offense was No. 1 in the league, their defense ranked 19th. Pro Bowl corner Champ Bailey was limited to five games last season which is likely why Denver let him walk along with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at the end of the season. They were quick to replace them though with Aqib Talib and backup Chris Harris Jr.

They also improved the secondary by snagging safety T.J. Ward. The pass rush also got a boost with the addition of DeMarcus Ware, who could be in for a big season alongside Von Miller if he can put his injury troubles behind him. With the star power added the Denver defense could make as many waves as their high-powered offense this season, which should scare everyone in the AFC.

Denver’s big-play offense obviously led to a lot of high scores and a 12-7 over-under mark in 2013. They also were a solid wager for spread bettors at 11-8 ATS, all as the favorite.

Peyton Manning answered all questions about his health and ability to return at an elite level in quick fashion last year, putting together one of the best seasons of his career while leading the Broncos to a 13-3 SU and 11-5 ATS season. Can Denver add playoff success to the campaign this time around?

Through most of the regular season, the Denver Broncos were the best team in the NFL last year. After struggling with consistency in getting out to a 2-3 SU and ATS start, Denver sharpened things up and went a perfect 11-0 SU over its last 11 games with a sensational 9-2 ATS record to go with it.

Denver’s offense torched through the competition, finishing fourth in the NFL in total yards with 397.9 yards per game and second in scoring with 30.1 yards per game. Opposing defenses had no answer for Peyton Manning, who passed for 4,659 yards and 37 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions. It is scary to think that the offense could be even better in 2013 with the addition of Wes Welker, arguably the best slot receiver in the league. Denver was 10-5-1 on the OVER last season.

While Peyton Manning and the offense stole most of the headlines in Denver, the defense was outstanding last season too. Denver’s 290.8 yards per game against was second best in the NFL, and the 18.1 points against per game was fourth best. After giving up 23 points or less in each of its last 10 regular season games, the Broncos surrendered a season-high 38 points in their postseason loss to Baltimore; a chip on their shoulder they will surely carry into this year.

There isn’t much to dislike about the Denver Broncos on paper. With one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history under center on offense and a strong defense, the well-rounded Broncos should soar to a double-digit win total again this season and compete for the best record in the NFL.
