Eagles favored big over Vikes

For the first time since 1946 there will be an NFL betting game played on a Tuesday night and the Eagles have plenty of impetus to win and win big here.

The Minnesota Vikings visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday in a game that was supposed to be played on Sunday but a snowstorm caused the game to be moved to Tuesday night.  NBC will still be televising the game and the Eagles are still heavily favored.

Philadelphia is a 14 point favorite with a total of 41.5 at SBG Global.com - article courtesy of Bovada

Philadelphia has clinched the NFC East but they are still in the hunt for a first round bye and the #2 seed.  They are not expected to have too much trouble on Tuesday with a Minnesota team  that is playing no defense.  The only thing that might give the Vikings a chance is if quarterback Brett Favre is cleared to play.

He suffered a concussion last week and probably would not have played if this game was on Sunday.  With two extra days of rest he might get the start on Tuesday night.  If he does not play then the Vikings will turn to rookie Joe Webb. Minnesota could get running back Adrian Peterson back for this game and his return would definitely help Minnesota’s offense.

The Vikings need all the help they can get as they haven’t won in Philadelphia since 1985. [ Matchup Stats ]

The Eagles have the best offense in the NFL in terms of yards per game led by quarterback Michael Vick. He has been virtually unstoppable and is in the race for the league MVP award with New England’s Tom Brady. The Eagles have won three straight and six of their last seven games.

The Vikings have won 11 of the 20 all-time meetings against the Eagles but they have lost six of the last seven including the last three.  Minnesota has lost six straight at Philadelphia with the last winning coming in 1985.  This is the sixth time the Eagles have been in prime time this season and in the previous five they won each game.  Here are more football betting stats for Tuesday’s game.

The Vikings are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Vikings are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Vikings are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games as an underdog. The Eagles are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in December. Looking at the total, the Under is 4-1 in the Vikings last 5 vs. the NFC. The Over is 4-0 in the Eagles last 4 games overall. The Over is 12-5-1 in the Eagles last 18 home games.
