Titans Have Had Major Issues Covering the Spread vs the Texans

Sportsbooks of four of their last five, the Tennessee Titans have fought their way back into the AFC South division race and sit tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the best record at 7-4 SU. Tennessee gets a very winnable game against the visiting Houston Texans in Week 13.

Sportsbook opened the Titans as touchdown home favorites with a total of 42.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone UNDER in three of the Texans’ last four games in December.
  • The Titans are 8-27-2 ATS in their last 37 games vs divisional opponents.
  • The Titans are 5-1 SU in their last six games after losing the previous game in a matchup.

Quarterback Marcus Mariota hasn’t played his best football in recent weeks but the talented backfield duo of DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry have helped shoulder the load on offense. The pair have combined for eight touchdowns and five plays of 20 yards or more in 2017. Meanwhile, Mariota owns a disappointing 9-12 touchdown-to-interception ratio and simply must play better if the Titans want to be a true force in the AFC.

The Texans should be in the midst of a memorable season but the season-ending injury to Deshaun Watson has thrown a major wrench into those plans. Tom Savage has looked very ordinary in his place, and it’s quite clear at this point Savage is not going to be a difference-maker in the NFL.

Houston possesses some great depth on offense with Lamar Miller and DeAndre Hopkins, but opposing defenses are daring Savage to beat them and it’s been a sound strategy so far. The signal-caller threw two interceptions while completing 22 of 37 passes in Houston’s 23-16 loss to Baltimore on Monday Night Football in Week 12.

The good news for Houston bettors is the team’s penchant for covering the spread when facing Tennessee. In the Texans’ last eight vs the Titans, they’re 7-1 ATS.
