Injury Report: Palmer in for Raiders

No injury in the NFL caused more of a stir this week than the one to Oakland Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell. It wasn’t just the injury to Campbell that caused the commotion; it was who they went out and got to replace him.

With Campbell out at least six weeks with a collarbone injury, the Raiders traded two high draft picks to the Cincinnati Bengals to get Carson Palmer, who had chosen retirement over playing for the Bengals this season. Despite having no in-game experience or practice since last year, Oakland will start Palmer at home against the Kansas City Chiefs this week. Oakland is a 4-point favorite at 5Dimes.

In other starting quarterback injury news, Seattle’s Tarvaris Jackson (hamstring) is currently considered doubtful for Sunday’s game against Cleveland. He hasn’t been ruled out completely just yet, but backup Charlie Whitehurst has been taking the first-team snaps during practice this week.

Cleveland also has a key injury to deal with as running back Peyton Hillis is also considered doubtful with a hamstring injury. Coming off of a breakout campaign in 2010, Hillis has been a major disappointment this season. The Browns are a 3-point favorite at home at TopBet.

Not only did the Detroit Lions lose their first game of the season last week, but they may have also lost their starting running back for this week as Jahvid Best is currently considered doubtful with a concussion. The Lions acquired Ronnie Brown from Philadelphia at the trade deadline, so he may get immediate work if Best can’t go. Detroit is favored by 3.5 points at home this week at BetOnline over the Atlanta Falcons.

Felix Jones (ankle) is expected to miss two to four weeks for the Dallas Cowboys. DeMarco Murray and Tashard Choice will split the workload Sunday as Dallas hosts the St. Louis Rams as a 13-point favorite at 5Dimes.

Neither Denver quarterback Kyle Orton or Minnesota quarterback Donovan McNabb are injured, but both did lose their jobs to youth movements. Tim Tebow will start for Denver (+1.5) at Miami and Christian Ponder will start for Minnesota (+9) at home against Green Bay. Both lines are available at Bovada.
