Lions vs. Bears: Opening NFL Lines

Last week’s NFL action once again showed that no lead is safe, but it also showed that the Detroit Lions just might be the real deal. For the second straight week, they overcame a huge deficit on the road to win, this time at the expense of the Dallas Cowboys.

This week, Detroit gets the spotlight on Monday Night Football, where they are a 6-point favorite at home against the division rival Chicago Bears.

While Detroit is off to a much better start to the season at 4-0 (3-0-1 ATS) than Chicago (2-2 SU, 1-3 ATS), the Bears have won the last six meetings between these two teams. Will this be the year Detroit bucks the trend?

Bookmakers finally seem to have corrected the over-under lines for this season’s offensive explosion, as last week the OVER and UNDER were split 8-8. The highest total on the board this week is in Sunday Night Football’s Green Bay at Atlanta, where the total is set at 53.5 at 5Dimes.

The only team that opened as a double-digit favorite this week was the New York Giants, who are a 10-point favorite at home over Seattle at Bovada.

In Week 4, favorites were 10-6 ATS and home teams were 8-8 SU.

Key matches with Week 5 Odds courtesy of BetOnline:

Eagles -3 at Buffalo – Philadelphia’s “dream team” fell to 1-3 SU last week, and Buffalo’s hot start took a speed bump in Cincinnati. Which team will get back on track this week?

Raiders +6 at Houston – Houston proved they belong among the NFL elite last week with a convincing win over Pittsburgh. Both of these teams are 3-1 ATS, as last week’s loss to New England was the Raiders' first ATS loss.

Jets +9 at New England – New York is reeling, losing their second straight game by double-digits last week to Baltimore. New England is a tough team to try and get back on track against, as they are 3-1 SU and ATS.

Packers -6 at Atlanta – Green Bay (4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS) has been one of the NFL’s most dominant teams, while Atlanta is just staying afloat at 2-2 SU (1-3 ATS). Can the Falcons pull off the upset at home?
