Chiefs are Taking Care of Business Against Losing Teams

Drew Brees and the Saints roll into Kansas City this weekend on a two-game winning streak but will have to overcome pretty overwhelming underdog odds against a tough Chiefs defense to get their third in a row and pull their record even for the season.

SHARK BITES
  • The Chiefs are 7-0 SU in their last 7 games against teams with losing records.
  • The total has gone OVER in 8 of the Saints' last 9 games as an underdog of 7.0 or less.
  • The Chiefs are 11-0 SU and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite of 7.0 or less.

KC plowed through Oakland last week and that’s a good omen for the Chiefs in Week 7. The Saints have given up 419.4 yards per game – second only to a Raiders team the Chiefs just dropped 406 total yards on. New Orleans has also given up the most points per game of any NFL team and has yet to play a top-16 defense.

If the Chiefs can get the offense going at all – which seems likely – they could absolutely pound the Saints. The high-volume passing game of New Orleans will have to be cautious facing a KC secondary that has picked off a league-high nine passes and has 29 pass deflections. Brees has averaged 45 pass attempts per game this year but may have to reduce that number if he wants to keep the ball out of the defense’s hands.

With that said, the Saints have one of the worst rushing attacks in the league as they have just 390 yards on the ground and an average of 3.5 yards per rush. The Chiefs have a mid-level rush defense so they are susceptible to the ground attack and could be exposed if Sean Payton and Co. decide to crank up Mark Ingram’s usage.

NO is 7-0-1 against the spread in its last eight games against teams with winning records so the mountain of points currently being laid by the Chiefs might prove to be an insurmountable number for a team that is just 2-3 against the spread this year.
