Giants Look for Their First Win Against a Bucs Team They've Owned

Long gone are the days of the Barber brothers but the Giants’ winning streak against the Buccaneers lives on. The G-Men haven’t lost to the Bucs since 2003 and in that five-game span, they’ve failed to cover the spread just one time. That said, the Giants have started their season 0-3 and their chances at making the playoffs are now slim to nil.

SHARK BITES
  • The Giants are 2-7 SU in their last 9 games on the road.
  • The Buccaneers are 7-3 SU and ATS in their last 10 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of the Giants' last 10 games against the Buccaneers.

Maybe they’ll draw some inspiration from the 1998 Bills, the last team to start a year 0-3 and make the playoffs. That Buffalo club reeled off five straight wins after its horrendous start and the Giants could have to do something similar with every other team in the NFC East sitting at 2-1 after three weeks.

They can get that started with another win over Tampa Bay but oddsmakers aren’t sure they can, Sportsbook the Bucs as four-point faves.

Jameis Winston and the Bucs are coming off a throttling at the hands of the Case Keenum-led Vikings in which Tampa’s quarterback threw three interceptions and its defense got torched by a bottom-tier journeyman QB. Facing another quality secondary and a better signal caller in Week 4, both Winston and Mike Smith’s defense will have to be much better if the Bucs are to break their dismal streak against their East Coast foes.

So far this season, though, Tampa has allowed the second most passing yards per game (329.5) and the Giants have accumulated the eighth most (257.3). If the Bucs can’t pressure the pocket and allow New York’s offense to get cooking, get out your forks and knives – Eli Manning Odell Beckham Jr. and could whip up a feast in the Bayou.

As for Eli and the Giants, they’re going to have to wake up before the fourth quarter this week. While Manning’s 35/47, 366 yard and three-touchdown day looks good on paper, the film tells us another story. OBJ bailed Eli out with a couple of circus touchdown catches in the fourth and Sterling Sheppard gained a huge chunk of that yardage on a 77-yard pitch and catch score.

The Giants are probably a bit better than their record implies and this seems like a good matchup for New York to finally get into some kind of rhythm on offense. Ben McAdoo could be coaching for his job security on Sunday, don’t count them out just yet.
