There’s not many instances of a Patriots’ divisional opponent having any sort of bragging rights over the AFC East kings, but we’ve found one for Week 17. The New York Jets are somehow 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine matchups vs the Patriots and will be looking to add another cover to that record in their season finale as the biggest underdog of the week in New England.
It certainly has been a profitable few seasons of backing the Jets in this matchup, but there will be absolutely no messing around for the Patriots on Sunday as they can lock up the top seed in the conference with a win. Covering the spread, of course, is a different story, especially at a monster number like -15.5. That big number shouldn’t scare you off, however, as the Patriots have been money in this spot, covering the spread in seven straight home games as a favorite of 14 points or more. This includes a 41-3 smackdown of the Jets last season.
After exceeding expectations for the majority of the season, the Jets have really taken their foot off the gas the past few weeks. They’ve lost three straight games by a combined score of 68-26 and rank 30th in net yards per play over that span. They enter this game at 8-6-1 ATS, but keep in mind most of that success has come at home as they’re just 2-4-1 ATS on the road.
The total is hovering in the 45-point range, which is a number the Patriots have topped in four of their last five games. With the Jets averaging just 15.1 points per game on the road, the Patriots should be expected to do the lion’s share of the work if the total is to go OVER. They currently rank third in the NFL with 29.9 points per game at home.
