Jinxed Jets face monstrous odds to get win in the Bayou vs Saints

The New York Jets have sunk to a new low after their Week 14 shutout loss to the Denver Broncos. At 5-8 SU this season, their best days are behind them after starting quarterback Josh McCown broke his hand and was placed on IR. The Jets now will play a token game as a heavy underdog vs the New Orleans Saints, who will be looking to get back in the win column after losing to the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints opened as 14.5-point favorites to roll over New York.

SHARK BITES
  • The total has gone OVER in 14 of the Saints’ last 19 games at home.
  • The Jets are 2-5 SU in their last seven games against the Saints.
  • The Jets are 1-5 SU in their last six games in the early afternoon.

New York will be relying on backup Bryce Petty at quarterback this week. That alone should be enough to scare bettors off backing the Jets. Petty is 1-4 SU in his career as a starter and has only completed 56 per cent of his passes, which doesn’t bode well vs the Saints and their reinvigorated secondary. It’s not like the Jets were lighting the football world on fire with McCown at quarterback either as they were 1-6 SU on the road this season while allowing teams to average over 24 points per game. At this point, the Jets should be trying to tank to get a high pick in the upcoming draft.

The Saints must have been licking their chops when they saw Petty announced as the Jets starter. The Saints have dropped two of their last three games and must be feeling Carolina and Atlanta at their heels for the division lead. The good news for Saints backers, though, is they’re 5-0 SU in their last five games at home and 7-3 in their last 10 games when they’re favored by 10 points or more. Super rookie Alvin Kamara is expected to be back in the lineup and would make New Orleans even more formidable vs the Jets’ 27th-ranked run defense.

The total opened at 47 points and while the Saints are notorious for scoring a ton of points at home (ranked second in the NFL), the UNDER may be the way to go. The UNDER has hit in six of the Jets’ last eight games on the road and, as mentioned, Bryce Petty is starting. It may be difficult to get an OVER if the Saints are the only team that scores.
