NFL Betting: Back the AFC West
When it comes to covering the spread, the NFC North and AFC South are the absolute worst divisions in the NFL. Teams from those two divisions are a combined 11 games under .500 against the spread.
The AFC South, featuring the Houston Texans (2-8 ATS) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8 ATS), is 15-24-1 ATS, heading into the Week 12 slate. The Texans and Jaguars are a combined 0-10 against the spread at home. The entire division is just 3-17-1 ATS at home.
The Chicago Bears (2-7-1 ATS) are bringing down the NFC North. The loss of Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers isn’t helping the division’s 16-23 record against the spread, either.
On the other hand, backing the AFC West has been a winning proposition. All four of the division’s teams have winning records against the spread, led by the surprising Oakland Raiders, who are 4-1 ATS on the road and 7-3 ATS overall. As a whole, the AFC is 24-15-1 against the spread.
The NFC West also has been a solid bet to this point, going a combined 23-17-1 ATS. The Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and Arizona Cardinals all have winning records against the spreads.
The remaining division records against the spread are as follows: AFC East 22-19, AFC North 20-20-1, NFC East 20-21, and NFC South 19-20-1.
The AFC East sports the best home record against the spread, with the teams a combined 16-5 ATS in home games this season. The AFC North is second at 14-5 ATS in home games.
