The trusty OddsShark computer came out of the gates a little rusty in Week 1.
It’s been known to bounce back and improve throughout the season; as the data and sample size grows and becomes more accurate, so does the computer.
Week 1 was difficult for a lot of bettors, with surprising covers from the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Oakland Raiders. The computer went 6-10 against the spread in Week 1, but also was an impressive 10-5-1 on over/unders, with the push coming in the Cincinnati Bengals-Chicago Bears game.

But the computer is extraordinary at putting its previous struggles behind it and focusing on the next task. As soon as all the results and stats were in from Week 1, the computer quickly turned its monitor toward Week 2, with projections and totals for all 16 games.
The computer loves the New York Jets to easily cover the double-digit spread against the banged-up New England Patriots, who could be without as many as three starters on offense. Running back Shane Vareen is out and wide receiver Danny Amendola and tight end Rob Gronkowski are listed as doubtful. With those three weapons not at full strength, the computer sees Tom Brady and the Patriots offense being held to around 21 points, while Geno Smith and the Jets will scrounge up enough offense to make this a tight, low-scoring affair.
The computer likes nine road teams to cover this week and has two underdogs winning outright. In the big NFC West showdown in Seattle, the computer has the underdog 49ers squeaking past the Seahawks. Seattle has been deadly at home and waxed the 49ers, 42-13, at CenturyLink Field in the teams’ last meeting in December. Seattle has won eight straight at home and is 16-4 against the spread in its last 20 at home.
The computer also projects the Miami Dolphins to go into Indianapolis and upset the favored Colts. Indianapolis was less than impressive in fighting off the Raiders in Week 1, while the Dolphins looked good in cruising past the Cleveland Browns.
The computer has nine games going OVER the totals, with the highest-scoring games occurring between the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles.
