NFL Odds: Bet against the Texans
Through six weeks the best wagers in the NFL have been betting against the Houston Texans and betting the OVER in Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos games.
The Texans started the season as one of the top-tier Super Bowl contenders in the AFC, but things haven’t gone as planned. Quarterback Matt Schaub has lost the support of the home fans during a current four-game losing streak. The Texans are 2-4 straight-up and 0-6 against the spread, including an embarrassing 38-13 loss to the St. Louis Rams. The Texans were as high as 8-point favorites over the Rams. Houston is the only team that not yet covered the spread.
The Vikings are scoring—and allowing—more points than the betting market is expecting. The Vikings’ first five games have averaged 56.6 points, with all five eclipsing the total. Last week’s 35-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers is the lowest-scoring Vikings game this far.
The betting market is also having trouble keeping up with Peyton Manning and the Broncos. All six of the Broncos' games have gone OVER the total. Broncos games are averaging an astounding 70.5 points per game. Can you imagine if a book opened an over/under on an NFL game at 70?
NFL Betting Odds & Ends
After an impressive start to the season, home teams came back to earth a little in Week 6. Away teams covered the spread in nine of the 15 games, with home dogs going an ugly 1-4 ATS. Home teams enter Week 7 at 50-39-1 against the spread, with home dogs 18-15 against the spread.
On the season, 49 games have gone OVER the total and 43 have stayed UNDER. Last week, there were nine OVERs and six UNDERs.
There were only two straight-up upsets in Week 6, the fewest so far this season. The Rams knocked off the Texans, as mentioned above, and the San Diego Chargers upended the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football. On the season, there have been 28 outright underdog winners.
