NFL Preseason Friday Night Betting

Donovan McNabb plays his first game in a Redskins uniform on Friday night when Washington hosts Buffalo in preseason action.

Buffalo at Washington McNabb isn't the only new Redskin making his debut on Friday; it will also be the first game for new head coach Mike Shanahan on the sidelines. Shanahan inherits a Redskins squad packed with veterans, but they might be too old and lacking the talent to make a run for the NFC East title. One thing the Redskins need to figure out in the preseason is who's going to be their other starting wide receiver. Santana Moss has the No. 1 spot locked down, but the No. 2 spot will be a battle between Malcolm Kelly, Joey Galloway, Roydell Williams, and Mike Furrey among others. Don't expect to see Albert Haynesworth play Friday night - he may have finally passed his conditioning test, but he's not game ready. The Bills are expected to use the preseason to get their new defense worked out. Under new coach Chan Gailey the Bills have shifted to a 3-4 defense to improve their pass rush and in turn give their secondary a chance to make more plays. So far the 3-4 has received rave reviews in practice, but will that success continue in game conditions?

Also on the Friday night NFL preseason schedule are Jacksonville at Philadelphia and Kansas City at Atlanta. Jacksonville at Philadelphia While McNabb moves on in Washington his old team the Eagles get started on life after him with Kevin Kolb at the helm. Kolb retains McNabb's dynamite young receiving tandem of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, but don't expect to see Maclin on Friday night. Maclin is sidelined for at least the first game of the preseason with a hyper-extended knee and a bone bruise. The Jaguars have a big question mark in their receiving corps that needs to be answered during the preseason. Mike Sims-Walker will be David Garrard's No. 1 receiver, but after that the Jags' lineup is pretty thin. Either Mike Thomas or Troy Williamson is expected to win the position, but the Jags could be in the market for a veteran receiver if one gets cut in the next couple of weeks.

Kansas City at Atlanta The Chiefs made some important moves on and off the field during the offseason but still have a long way to go after going 4-12 last season. That being said it will be interesting to see how the addition of Charlie Weis as offensive coordinator and Romeo Crennel as defensive coordinator will impact both sides of the ball. Bettors will get their first real look at how the new coordinators will change the game plan tonight in Atlanta. The Falcons are banged up heading into their preseason debut and at least three starters will not see the field. On offense wideout Michael Jenkins is out four to six weeks with an injured shoulder, while running back Jerious Norwood is doubtful to play due to a bad hip. Offseason acquisition cornerback Dunta Robinson will also likely miss Friday's game due to an injured hamstring.
