NFL Prop Bets: Week 15
Another weekend of NFL football means another backup quarterback set to start and open up the betting for NFL props bettors. This week's victim is Green Bay's Matt Flynn.
As of right now Flynn hasn't officially been named the Packers' starter for Week 15, but that hasn't stopped the oddsmakers from dishing out the props. Flynn must start for any wagers on those props to count, but unless Aaron Rodgers makes an unexpected quick recovery from a concussion Flynn will be out there in New England on Sunday.
Bettors don't have much to go on when making their props picks on Flynn. The former LSU quarterback has appeared in 27 games in his short career, but mostly as an injury replacement or in garbage time, as he's never made a pro start. In his limited duty Flynn has passed for 246 yards while completing 54.3% of his passes.
The Flynn props at Bovada include passing yards and passing percentage versus New England this weekend. His passing yards total was set at 215.5 yards with the UNDER favored at -125. Last week, after taking over for Rodgers, Flynn passed for 177 yards. Rodgers has averaged 253 yards per game this season, and even though the Packers have no run game we shouldn't expect Flynn to put up Rodgers-like numbers. Take the UNDER here.
For pass percentage the Bovada oddsmakers have set Flynn's total at 57% and again the UNDER is favored at -125. Last week versus Detroit Flynn completed 15 of 26 passes, or 58%. In his career he has completed 54.3% of his passes. Since the Packers are facing the Patriots this weekend the OVER might be a smart pick here. Opponents are completing 66% versus the Patriots this season, which could mean an accurate passing day for Flynn on Sunday.
One other game Bovada props makers have set their sights on this weekend is Jacksonville at Indianapolis. Props on Peyton Manning and Maurice Jones-Drew came in early this week so bettors could get a jump on them.
This week Manning's passing prop total was set at 305.5 yards. So far this season Manning has averaged 309.8 passing yards per game, but he's gone to the air a lot lately with an average of 341.3 yards in his last four games. Manning also put up 352 yards against the Jags in Week 4. The OVER looks like a near-lock on this one.
Also on the props list for this game is Maurice Jones-Drew's rushing yards, with the total set at 100.5. Jones-Drew has been on fire lately with 101 yards last week against Oakland and an average of 133.3 yards per game in his last four games. He's also averaged 98.1 yards per game against Indy in his career, but we'll take the UNDER this week because MJD has been battling a knee injury and could lose some carries to Rashad Jennings.
