NFL Props: Divisional Playoffs
With two of this weekend's NFL matchups involving division rivals props bettors have plenty of info and numbers to crunch to try and make some winning picks.
In Saturday's Ravens at Steelers matchup Joe Flacco gets his third shot at Pittsburgh this season. Meanwhile, Ben Roethlisberger gets only his second chance against Baltimore after being suspended for the Steelers' first game against the Ravens.
At Bovada the oddsmakers have listed Flacco's passing yards prop total at 230.5 yards. Last week when the Ravens trounced the Chiefs in the Wild Card Round Flacco passed for 265 yards, but during the regular season he averaged only 226.5 yards per game. In both of the Ravens' games against the Steelers this season Flacco went to the air a lot with 256 yards in Week 4 and 266 yards in Week 13. This is at least partly due to the Steelers' dominate run defense, which held opponents to a league-low 62.8 rushing yards per game. Look for the Ravens' passing game to be busy again this weekend and the OVER to pay out.
Roethlisberger heads into this weekend's game with a 255.5-yards total on his passing yards prop at Bovada. He averaged 266.7 yards passing per game this season, and in Week 13 against the Ravens he put up 253 yards. Big Ben's career numbers against Baltimore are a lot lower; in 10 career games against the Ravens Roethlisberger has averaged only 210.2 yards per game. Baltimore shut down Matt Cassel last week, limiting him to 70 yards, and if they can slow down Big Ben at all this weekend the UNDER looks good.
In this weekend's other divisional clash between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots it's all about Mark Sanchez and Tom Brady.
Sanchez has been the model of inconsistency this season, and he didn't exactly turn heads last week in the Jets' win over the Colts. This weekend at Bovada the oddsmakers have set Sanchez's passing yards prop total 220.5 yards. On the season he averaged only 205.7 yards per game, and last week against Indianapolis he didn't even reach that with 189 yards.
In his two starts against the Patriots this season Sanchez delivered two very different efforts, with 220 yards in Week 2 and 164 yards in Week 13. Both of those would qualify as UNDER this weekend's total, and in his last six games Sanchez has eclipsed 220.5 yards only once. Take the UNDER again this weekend.
For Tom Brady the Bovada oddsmakers have come up with a passing yards total of 260.5 yards, with the OVER favored at -125. Brady averaged 243.8 yards per game this year, but that number was dragged downward late in the season as Brady passed for less than 200 yards in his last three games. Against the Jets this season Brady passed for 248 yards in Week 2 and 326 yards in Week 13. Look for a performance more fitting the Week 13 game this weekend and take the OVER.
