NFL Week 10: Potential Upsets
Week 9 went to the underdogs, as the pups went 7-6 last week, and five of them won outright - including two of the three primetime games. Favorites are now 67-63-3 on the year, while outright underdogs improved to 42 wins this season.
Four teams are on bye weeks for Week 10, which reveals some awfully intriguing numbers, including a pair of very dangerous underdogs for Sunday.
At Bovada, Carolina is catching +6 points in San Francisco, and the oddsmakers may be reaching a bit with this number. As good as the 49ers have become over the past few weeks, the Panthers are no slouch, and are certainly making some noise in the NFC South. The big black cats from Tobacco Road arrive in the Bay Area riding a four-game win streak, and are just a game behind the division-leading Saints in the South after a 34-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
The Panthers are first in the league in time of possession and they have allowed the second-fewest points on defense. The Panthers have scored at least 30 points in each of their last four games, outscoring opponents 130-48 in that span. They're definitely worth a look in this game.
The second underdog is in the late game, on primetime TV, as the Cowboys are catching a rather big +7 points in New Orleans. As painful as it's been for the Pokes, in last-moment losses to the Broncos and Lions, they're one of the elite teams in the league and are most definitely a threat to the Saints - even in the Big Easy.
Quite frankly, last week's win over Minnesota may have been a franchise-saving win for Tony Romo and the Cowboys as it showed resiliency from a team that has failed to live up to expectations over the years. Coming into this game with a wealth of confidence, the Cowboys might surprise some people if they pull off the unthinkable in the Superdome.
