NFL Week 12: Even action this week
Normally by Friday sportsbooks have a pretty good idea about which NFL teams they’ll be rooting for on Sunday. Bettors usually gang up on a few teams, leaving the books with lopsided action. That’s not necessarily the case this week, though.
A Bovada book manager told OddsShark.com that they had received unusually even action on this week’s NFL card.
“Nothing is getting really one-sided yet, which is unusual,” the book manager said in an email.
Of course, that could change as the bulk of the action begins to flow in over the weekend. But for now, Bovada isn’t facing any major decisions.
There has been some early action on two road favorites, however. The Carolina Panthers visit the Miami Dolphins as 5-point favorites. That line has grown from 3.5. The Panthers have won and covered in six straight games. Quarterback Cam Newton is playing the best football of his career, and the Panthers’ defense has emerged as one of the league’s best.
The Dolphins are coming off a big win over the San Diego Chargers, which helped alleviate what’s been a troubled month for Miami. The Richie Incognito investigation continues off the field, while the Dolphins try to stay focused on the field. Miami is 6-2-1 against the spread in its last nine home games, and 4-1-1 ATS as a home underdog.
Bettors also were backing the San Francisco 49ers on the road at the struggling Washington Redskins in the Monday night game. The 49ers opened as 3.5-point favorites, but that number had jumped to as high as -6 as of Friday.
San Francisco has been deadly on Monday night, covering the spread in their last seven appearances in the league’s showcase game. The Redskins are 1-6 against the spread in their past seven games as underdogs.
The Atlanta Falcons covering the spread in the Thursday night game got the sportsbooks off to a good start to the week.
