NFL Week 14 Prop Bets

Another inexperienced quarterback makes his first start this weekend, giving NFL props bettors a chance to cash in on John Skelton and the brutal Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals are one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. The Cards are 3-9 in the worst division in football, and they've lost their last seven games. Now things somehow get even worse, with rookie QB Skelton set to start this weekend against the Denver Broncos.

This may be awful news for Arizona fans, but for props bettors it could mean another nice addition to their bankroll. Over at Bovada the latest NFL props of Skelton include passing yards and passing percentage. For passing yards, Skelton's prop total was set low at 195.5.

Since Skelton's only NFL experience came last week when he took over in the fourth quarter and completed 3-of-6 passes for 45 yards, bettors don't have much to go on. Arizona's other quarterbacks that have started this season, Derek Anderson and Max Hall, averaged only 208.1 yards per game this season.

That may be OVER Skelton's posted total, but it's not by much so we're more inclined to go with the UNDER. Also hyping the UNDER are Skelton's opponent, the Broncos. Denver showed pretty good pass protection last week against the Chiefs and cornerback Champ Bailey held Dwayne Bowe to zero catches.

If he can blanket Larry Fitzgerald as well this week then Skelton's receiving options will take a huge hit.

The Bovada oddsmakers set Skelton's pass percentage prop total at 54%. In the fourth quarter last week Skelton completed 50% of his passes, but that might be hard to duplicate over the entire game this week. The Cardinals have completed 51.5% of their passes so far this season, and a rookie with hardly any experience likely won't match that. Go with the UNDER there as well.

One other interesting prop over at Bovada this weekend involves everyone's favorite battered and bruised QB, Brett Favre. Despite a messed-up ankle and an even worse shoulder on his throwing arm Favre will likely start again this weekend for the Vikings.

At Bovada their Favre prop is how many times will he get sacked, with an over/under total of 2.5.

Last week Favre didn't get sacked at all, but that's only because he was out of the game after the first play thanks to a hard hit in the back. Not counting last week Favre has been sacked 21 times this season in 12 games, for an average of 1.75 sacks per game. His high sack total on the season is four against the Jets, while his low is zero versus the Patriots.

A big part of this prop is Favre's opponent this week, the New York Giants. The G-men are tied for second in the NFL right now with 35 sacks, led by Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora with nine each. If Favre plays the whole game we'd take the OVER on this prop, but since Favre is so banged up he likely won't last the entire game.

Look for Favre to make an early exit and for the UNDER to pay out on Sunday. Maybe next week, he'll be suspended in the Jenn Sterger controversy so it might be the last bet on Favre.
