NFL Week 3: Mismatches on board?
According to the OddsShark.com Power Rankings there are several mismatches on the schedule for Week 3 of the NFL season.
Starting with the early card on Sunday, No. 3 New England is laying -7 points to the No. 26 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and though the Power Rankings show a huge gap make note the Bucs have lost their two games by a combined three points, while the Patriots won their two contests by a combined five points.
No. 8 Washington, even with an 0-2 start, are still in the Top 10, and play host to the 23rd-ranked Detroit Lions, who have never won in Washington, losing 21 straight since the Redskins moved from Boston in 1937. Washington, which is laying -2 to the Lions, is allowing 511.5 yards per game.
New Orleans, No. 7 in the Power Rankings, is laying -7 at home against No. 29 Arizona, which will put its 21st-ranked pass defense up against the Saints' high-powered passing game, which ranks fifth in the league. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees has passed for 300-plus yards in seven straight games, the second-longest streak of all-time.
Off the late card, No. 6 Atlanta is catching -2.5 on the road from the surprisingly undefeated Miami Dolphins, ranked No. 21. And even though the Falcons have an explosive passing game led by quarterback Matt Ryan, the Dolphins are tied for the NFL lead with nine sacks and tied for second with four interceptions.
With the biggest mismatch on Sunday, top-ranked Seattle is laying the biggest number (-19) of the season to visiting No. 32 Jacksonville. After watching the Seahawks blitz the 49ers last Sunday night, it's hard to imagine a Jaguars team that is 2-8 all-time on the West Coast and 0-2 in Seattle challenging in this game.
On Monday, in an AFC West showdown in Denver, the second-ranked Broncos are laying -15 points to No. 28 Oakland. Denver quarterback Peyton Manning is 12-4 on Monday nights, and the Broncos lead the league with 90 points
As for the consensus plays at OddsShark, two games find 70 percent or more on one side, as 72 percent of the bettors like the New York Giants +1 at Carolina while 71 percent of the players are taking the Packers -2.5 in Cincinnati.
