NFL Week 5: Computer Predictions

Warning to bookies – the OddsShark Computer is nailing NFL totals at a 62.7 percent clip.

Through four weeks, the Computer is 37-22-3 on the OVER/UNDER and heads into Week 5 looking to do more damage with an array of underdog and UNDER picks.

Sides haven’t been as successful of a proposition for the Computer, which went 6-7-1 against the spread last week and is now 29-30-3 ATS on the season.

The Computer projects nine of the 14 games this week to stay UNDER the total. It’s also taking five underdogs to pull off outright upsets.

The Computer likes the underdog Philadelphia Eagles to pull off an outright upset of the New York Giants in a low-scoring affair. That shouldn’t come as much as a surprise, though. The Eagles have dominated their NFC East rivals recently, winning eight of the last 10 meetings straight-up and against the spread.

The Computer sees the Detroit Lions ending a 22-game losing streak at Green Bay, with a close win in a high-scoring shootout at Lambeau Field. You have to wonder if the Computer has checked the weather forecast for Green Bay, where cool temperatures, rain, and stiff winds are expected.

Other outright upset predictions include the Houston Texans over the San Francisco 49ers, the Baltimore Ravens over the Miami Dolphins, and the Buffalo Bill over the Cleveland Browns in the Thursday night tilt.

The lowest-scoring game is predicted to be in St. Louis, where the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars are projected to cover the spread against the Rams in a game that will barely creep into double digits. The Rams haven’t been double-digit favorites since 2004. Will they even know how to act? If the Jaguars do cover, the Rams would fall to 0-5 against the spread. St. Louis had the best ATS record in the NFL last season.

The Computer sees the Seattle Seahawks covering the spread in their seventh straight game with a close, shootout victory at the Indianapolis Colts.

The Computer also likes the Denver Broncos to stay on their roll with an easy win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Broncos have covered the spread in six of the last eight meetings with the Cowboys, with one push.
