NFL Week 8 Odds: Line Movement
The New England Patriots don’t lose often, but when they do, watch out the next week. The Patriots have a tendency to bounce back with vengeance under Bill Belichick.
Bettors apparently are aware, as the line on the Patriots’ home game against the Miami Dolphins has been on the move. New England opened as 4.5-point favorites, but the line was up to -7 at Bovada as of Friday.
The San Francisco 49ers-Jacksonville Jaguars game in London also has seen some significant line movement. The 49ers, who have won four games in a row straight-up and against the spread, opened as 13.5-point favorites over the winless Jaguars. San Francisco was laying as many as 16 as of Friday.
The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback issues have caused a 3-point adjustment in the Sunday night game against the visiting Green Bay Packers. Green Bay, who will be missing three of its top receivers in JerMichael Finley, James Jones, and Randall Cobb, opened as 6-point road favorites. But that line had grown to as high as Packers -10 as of Friday.
Quarterback issues are also behind a big line movement in the Monday night game between the Seattle Seahawks and host St. Louis Rams. St. Louis will be starting Kellen Clemens at quarterback in place of the injured Sam Bradford, who is out for the season. With the news of Bradford’s injury, the line jumped from Seattle -6 to as high as -11.5 as of Friday.
The total in the Washington Redskins-Denver Broncos game was on the rise throughout the week. A growing total on a Broncos game shouldn't be surprising. All seven of Denver’s games this season have gone OVER the total. This week’s total opened at 57.5, but could be found as high as 59 as of Friday.
