NFL Week 8 Odds: Mismatch Outlook
For the second week in a row the biggest mismatch on the NFL card, according to this week's OddsShark.com Power Rankings, is the Thursday night game.
Carolina, which is ranked No. 4 in the poll, travels to play the disgruntled Buccaneers, who are ranked 31st. The line at 5Dimes has the Panthers laying 6.5 points. Carolina is in double revenge mode for this NFC South rivalry after the Bucs swept the season series last year.
The next biggest mismatch is the Monday night game, with No. 2 Seattle traveling to play 25th-ranked St. Louis in an NFC West clash. The Seahawks, who are laying -12 to the Rams, are off to their best start in franchise history at 6-1. Seattle has won 14 of the last 16 meetings.
On Sunday there are two relatively big mismatches according to the poll, starting with the defending NFC champion 49ers taking on Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium in London, England. No. 11 San Francisco takes on a No. 32 Jacksonville team catching +17 on the NFL odds in the neutral-site matchup.
In the NFC North, third-ranked Green Bay takes its show to Minneapolis to face No. 23 Minnesota, which is in off a short week after losing to the Giants on Monday night. Despite how much better the Packers have been over the years, 16 of the last 21 meetings have been decided by a touchdown or less. Yet, the Packers are laying -10.
As for the consensus plays at OddsShark, the Seahawks are the top choice for players, as 67 percent like them laying the points Monday night in St. Louis. On Sunday, 64 percent of the bettors have spoken and say the Saints -12 are a good play against Buffalo, while the same percentage like the Packers in Minnesota. And 61 percent like the Panthers in Tampa Bay on Thursday night and the Chiefs laying -9 to Cleveland on Sunday.
