Peyton Manning: Odds Say Dolphins

Peyton Manning’s pain in the neck may well have led to Tom Brady having a pain in the neck twice each season.

Oddsmakers have made the Miami Dolphins the top betting choice on where the four-time MVP will sign after he was released by the Indianapolis Colts Wednesday.

“We don’t see the Dolphins as the best fit, but some other factors are at play here that make sense, hence the 2/1 odds,” said Mike Pickett.

“He is pals with Dan Marino and he would be playing in the AFC East against the Patriots. And in the AFC, he won’t cross paths with his brother in the NFC as they take turns winning the Super Bowl.”

The natural fit, as Yahoo! pointed out in an interesting ranking of Manning’s best landing spots, is in Houston. It’s a possible title contender with question marks at QB and it would allow Manning to play in a weak division and stay in touch with the Colts (long the kings of the AFC South but last overall in 2011).

Houston didn’t make the list from Sportsbook oddsmakers, but the Washington Redskins did at 13/4. They have plenty of QB issues, but this is a divisional foe for Eli and it’s cold there with no domed stadium.

Presumably he wants to go someplace with a chance to win the Super Bowl and Washington ain’t it.

The New York Jets have made rumblings but at 21/4 are a bit of longshot, especially with Mark Sanchez the incumbent. Seattle, Arizona and Kansas City – all with seriously flawed QB situations – are included in the Peyton Manning odds list.

Not making the cut, despite Jerry Rice’s musings, was the San Francisco 49ers. Alex Smith finally emerged in 2011 but would the 49ers be better served with a year or two of Manning’s control? He has a dominant running back and quality receivers there.

Which team will Peyton Manning play for in Game 1 of the 2013 Regular Season?

Miami Dolphins                          2/1

Washington Redskins                13/4

Seattle Seahawks                      7/2

Arizona Cardinals                       7/2

New York Jets                           21/4

Kansas City Chiefs                    21/4
