Taking a historical look at how things have played out in previous Super Bowls, along with team results from this season, here’s some numbers based on crucial points in the game that might give you an edge with your in-game wagers.

  • When the first score was a TD (24 times), the team won 70.8% of the time.
  • When the first score was a FG (23 times), the team won 60.9% of the time.
  • When the first score was a safety (3 times), the team won 100% of the time.
  • NE has scored first in the SB 3 times, going 2-1 in those games (2-0 on TD as first score, 0-1 on FG as first score).
  • ATL has scored first once in the SB ( a FG), and lost the game.
  • The team that scored first has won the last six Super Bowls.

End of First Quarter

  • The team leading at the end of the first quarter has won 71% of the time.
  • No team leading by more than 10 points at the end of the first quarter has EVER lost a Super Bowl.
  • Teams who are scoreless at the end of the first quarter and whose opponents are not are 6-20.
  • Teams leading by less than 7 points at the end of the first quarter are 10-7.
  • Teams leading by 7 points or more at the end of the first quarter are 17-4.
  • Teams leading by 3 points or less at the end of the first quarter are 8-5.
  • Teams leading by more than 3 points at the end of the first quarter are 19-6.
