Super Bowl National Anthem Prop Odds

Opera star Renee Fleming is expected to belt out the National Anthem before the Super Bowl in around two minutes and 20 seconds, just a touch over the average of the last eight singers.

After a string of pop divas, Fleming is the first opera star to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. She is a renowned global artist that has performed at Buckingham Palace and the Beijing Olympics, among other international stages.

Online sportsbook Bovada has posted a series of over/under times on Fleming’s rendition, anywhere from 2:15 to 2:25.

Alicia Keys’ two-minute, 35-second rendition last year was the longest of any singer since at least Super Bowl 40. The average over the past eight years has been around 2:18, with Billy Joel spouting out the shortest version at only 1:30 in Super Bowl 41.

Three years ago, pop singer Christina Aguilera flubbed some of the lyrics and caused a betting controversy with her one-minute, 54-second rendition, which landed right around the over/under number. Some books paid out on the OVER; others paid on the UNDER.

How will the expected chilly conditions at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., impact Fleming? As an opera singer, will she extend the notes? All things to consider before betting on one of the more popular Super Bowl prop bets.
