Super Bowl XLIV Betting Trends

If you have bet the total on the Super Bowl, there’s a good chance you went with the OVER.

A lot of people are betting on a shootout for Sunday with 70% of the total action on the OVER right now, at least at online sportsbook . That’s a pretty big percentage and a ton of money will be lost if something keeps the Saints and Colts from putting score after score on the board.

The OVER isn’t the only bet that seen a lot of cash dumped on it right now. The spread has been on the move after some late cash leaning heavily on one side. That side is the Saints which has caused the line to move down. The Colts opened up as a 6.5-point spread, but right now the popular line around the net has Indy down as a 4.5-point chalk.

That doesn’t mean you won’t find differing lines for Super Bowl XLIV if you look around. A few books such as and have gone down to 4-points, but have also rebounded to 4.5. Keep an eye on them if you want to get a bet in at 4 points because it will likely happen. If you’re bummed out because you missed out on the 6.5-point line early in the week you can still get in on the action at where the Colts at 6.5 points is still available.

 “The early money was on Indianapolis which moved the line to -6 -110 and then -6 -115,” Gardner says. “Then word of the Dwight Freeney injury hit, so the line moved back to -6 -105. A ton of bets have been coming in on New Orleans pushing line back to -6 Even. The current line is still drawing a little more Saints money but it’s still exposed on the Colts from the early money.”

Garner also said that the public has been shading toward Indy overall with 59% backing the Colts. However, the sharp bettors with the big cash are all over the Saints with 54% of their money backing New Orleans. The Saints also own the Super Bowl money line with 57% of money line bettors hoping to cash in on an upset.
