Texans battle Jaguars in Week 12 odds
|Jacksonville Jaguars||Houston Texans|
The Houston Texans, who have made the playoffs the last two seasons, have lost eight games in a row to fall out of playoff contention for this season.
Houston is now down to trying to figure out whether or not it will hang on to its head coach, and who it might use for a quarterback next season.
This week the 2-8 Texans host the 1-9 Jacksonville Jaguars in one of the first “Toilet Bowls” of this NFL season, Sunday at Reliant Stadium (1 pm ET, CBS).
Houston has lost its last four games with Case Keenum at quarterback, but those four losses have come by a total of 12 points.
Jacksonville, meanwhile, couldn't quite back up its first victory of the season two weeks ago, losing at home to Arizona Sunday 27-14.
Both these teams are just 2-8 ATS this season. The Texans have won the last five games in this divisional rivalry.
In the early betting most books were chalking Houston at -10 over the Jags, which has to be one of the biggest spreads ever enjoyed by a 2-8 team. That's how bad the Jaguars are.
Supporters of the Jaguars have seen them go 1-9 and 2-8 ATS so far this season, while the Texans are at 2-8 and 2-8 ATS. In totals betting, the Texans are 7-3, while the Jaguars are 6-4.
Bettors who were going with the Texans in this one found them listed as -10-point favorites on the betting line at 5Dimes. Totals bettors have seen that number set earlier in the week at 43 for Sunday over at Bovada.
The Texans sit at No. 24 in the current NFL Power Rankings here at OddsShark, while the Jaguars are at No. 32 on that chart. Math models have concluded that the Texans will win this game 14-4.
The Jaguars were a 27-14 loser in their most recent outing at home against the Cardinals. They failed to cover the 9.5-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (41) made winners of OVER bettors.
How They Match Up:
The game also pits Houston's No. 27-ranked offense, averaging 19.3 PPG, against a Jaguars defense that ranks No. 31 this week at 31.8 PPG. The Texans aerial game is averaging 257.7 yards per game, more than the Jaguars secondary allows through the air, 252.5 YPG per game.
In comparing defenses, the Jaguars own the league's No. 28-rated front 7 in terms of stopping the run, allowing 144 yards per game when on the road. Houston, on the other hand, rates No. 7 this week in generating rushing yards at home.
