Week 16 NFL Opening Lines
Don't listen to people who tell you the Detroit Lions are a lousy team.
Laying down money on the Lions has been a lucrative act by those doing NFL betting so far this season, and they'll get a chance to pad their bankroll this weekend with the Lions listed by the oddsmakers on their opening lines as underdogs in Miami.
Beating the Buccaneers on the road 23-20 in overtime on the weekend put the Lions at just 4-10 straight up through 15 weeks, but they're now 10-4 against the spread and 8-4 vs. the number as underdogs. The Dolphins, meanwhile, fell 17-14 at home to the Bills on Sunday and they sit at 7-7 SU and 8-6 ATS on the season.
Oddsmakers at books like Bovada, though, still opened the Dolphins as 3.5-point favorites for this week.

Week 16 of NFL betting opens up on Thursday night, with the Steelers big 13.5-point favorites on the opening lines at home against lowly Carolina. Pittsburgh has clinched at least a playoff spot at 10-4 (8-6 ATS), but they're only tied with the Ravens for first place in the AFC North.
The Panthers are coming off a rare win, beating Arizona 19-12 at home last week to improve to 2-12 SU (4-10 ATS) – but still good for last place overall. The modelling here suggests a 25-7 result - a Steeler cover and UNDER play.
On Saturday those Cardinals, now 4-10 SU and 4-10 ATS, will host the Cowboys in a Christmas Day matchup, with books like Bovada pegging them as 6-point home underdogs on the opening lines. John Skelton didn't exactly set the world afire in his start at QB for the Cards on Sunday, throwing for just 196 yards with one interception.
Prediction tools point to a 22-16 final in favor of Dallas.
The NFL opening lines offered up five more home underdogs for Sunday, with New England -9.5 at Buffalo, Baltimore -3 at Cleveland, Indianapolis -3 at Oakland, Houston -2.5 at Denver, and San Diego -7 at Cincinnati.
The Bills, Browns, Broncos, and Bengals are all out of playoff contention, but the Raiders still have an outside chance thanks to their 39-23 thumping of Denver on Sunday that put them at 7-7 SU (7-7 ATS).

Left without an opening line so far is the Giants at Green Bay matchup, with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' status still up in the air; more info is expected Wednesday.
Finally, the Falcons opened as 2.5-point favorites at outlets like Bovada for their big Monday night battle at home against the Saints. Atlanta has won eight straight games and has paid off well for those doing NFL betting at 10-4 ATS on the season (12-2 SU).
The Saints, meanwhile, are at 10-4 SU but just 5-9 ATS heading into Week 16.
