Where Will Kelly Be Coaching Next Year?

Philadelphia Eagles Chip Kelly

Chip Kelly has been officially fired by the Philadelphia Eagles. It was clear from the beginning that Kelly was going to live and die by the sword when he completely rebuilt the roster during his tenure in Philly.

As of December 2, Kelly coaching for any other team in the NFL or in the college ranks next season were both listed at +200 at Bovada. At the time of Kelly’s firing, Ball State and Texas State were the only FBS schools that have head coaching vacancies. Let’s be honest; Munchie, Indiana is not a likely landing spot for Kelly.

The most widely theorized landing spot for Kelly in the NFL is Tennessee. The Titans will likely be looking for an offensive-minded coach to pair with Marcus Mariota and Kelly did coach the rookie for one season while at Oregon. Only one other team in the NFL is currently working with an interim head coach, that being the Miami Dolphins.

What will Chip Kelly be Doing Week 1 of the 2016 NFL Season?

Odds as of December 2 at Bovada

  • Head Coach of the Eagles +150
  • Head Coach of an NCAA Team +200
  • Head Coach of Another NFL Team +200
  • Not Coaching +700

Sure USC has filled their head coaching vacancy, but that doesn't mean people are going to stop speculating that Chip Kelly is going back to college football next season. Kelly is slightly favored to stay with the Eagles next season at Bovada despite the fact that he dismantled the team, rebuilt it in his own image and now sits at 4-7.

Kelly vehemently denies that he is eyeing his colligate options, despite reports that he met with USC officials before the team decided to ink interim head coach Clay Helton permanently.

With USC and Georgia filling their head coaching vacancies, there are not a lot of prime opportunities for Kelly to bolt to in the college ranks. Miami remains an intriguing option with so much talent in their backyard, but the team has stadium and facilities issues.

Interestingly, the odds are the same that Kelly leaves for the college ranks and that he is coaching with another team in the NFL next season. There has been some quiet rumblings that there may be, possibly, if the stars align, a chance Kelly gets traded to the Tennessee Titans for a first round pick.
