Where Will Sean Payton Be Coaching In 2017?

Once again, speculation is swirling about where Sean Payton will be coaching next season. Reports and rumors and sources are suggesting there is a chance that the New Orleans Saints trade Payton this offseason if the right offer comes along.

Just like last season, when speculation began after a 1-4 Saints start, odds suggest that Payton will still be calling the Superdome home moving forward. BetOnline currently has him remaining as the coach of the Saints at -200, which is easily the favorite.

The biggest gossip is that the Los Angeles Rams would be the right team to trade for Payton. The Rams are in need of the right head coach to take control of the team: one who could groom Jared Goff, fix the offensive line and get Todd Gurley back to his Pro Bowl form. However, the last coach to be traded was Jon Gruden and he netted the Oakland Raiders two first-round picks, two second-round picks and $8 million. The Rams' cupboard may be barren, as they already gave up plenty of picks to trade up to select Goff last year.

The only other coaching job open as of this writing is in Jacksonville. The Jaguars are likely to go with an offensive coach after Gus Bradley, a highly touted defensive coordinator, failed miserably. Offensively, Payton could mold the Jags employing a system similar to the one he runs in New Orleans, with a loaded receiving corps and a quarterback who still has potential.
