Which Quarterback Will Throw The Most Interceptions?

No athlete gets scrutinized the way quarterbacks do. As Frank Sinatra said, “you’re riding high in April, shot down in May.” This is the life of an NFL quarterback. One week you’re the most popular person in the world, the next week you are a bum who should be playing in the CFL.

All that taken into consideration, there are still NFL signal-callers who get paid a lot of money and throw a lot of interceptions. Though we always encourage a positive outlook, it’s fun to think about who will be the worst quarterback in the NFL. So, online book BetOnline has released odds concerning which QB will throw the most picks in the upcoming 2017-18 season.

There is a four-way tie atop the list with Blake Bortles, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning and Jameis Winston all being listed at +550. In the past two seasons, all four of those passers have thrown at least 30 interceptions.

Rivers paced the league last season with 21 interceptions, the most in a single season since 2013. It’s certainly a feat that Rivers could accomplish again, as the now-Los Angeles Chargers defense is dreadful and gives up early leads very often. This forces Rivers and the Chargers offense into obvious passing situations and thus more interceptions.

However, the last time a player went back-to-back seasons leading the NFL in interceptions was Vinny Testaverde in 1988 and ’89. It’s not unheard of — it has been done four times in NFL history — but it does make the feat seem more unlikely.

If you’re looking for the most consistent, you are likely looking toward Bortles. In his three seasons in Jacksonville, Bortles has thrown at least 16 picks in every campaign. The former first-round pick has finished no worse than fourth in interceptions thrown in any season of his career.
