Momentum Favors the Ducks, the Odds Do Not

Executing one of the worst collapses I’ve ever seen in professional sports, the Oilers headed back to Edmonton Saturday Morning with tails firmly between legs and with complaints of goaltender interference locked and loaded. Connor McDavid and co. will try to move on from that devastating loss and look to avoid elimination this evening when they host a Ducks team that’s yet to lose a road game this postseason.

SHARK BITES
  • The Ducks outshot the Oilers 64-38 in Game 5.
  • The Ducks are 7-1 SU in their last 8 games as moneyline underdogs.
  • The Ducks are 11-2 SU in their last 13 games and are 5-0 SU in their last 5 road games.

Half the arena may have been empty when the Ducks rallied back from three-to-nothing down with less than four minutes to go, but the fans who stuck around stood witness to one of the greatest comebacks in NHL playoff history. Being on the losing end of that comeback will probably be tough to overcome but oddsmakers have tabbed the Oilers as moneyline favorites for tonight despite all of the momentum pointing in Anaheim’s direction.

Cam Talbot is likely the reason for that. He was excellent in the overtime loss, stopping 60 of the Ducks 64 shots. That said, that’s a massive workload for a guy who’s made 84 starts since the beginning of the 2016-17 regular season and I’m predicting he has a rough outing Sunday.

For that reason, and because of how good the Ducks’ top line is playing, I’ll be backing the Quackers as moneyline dogs tonight and I’ll also be looking at an OVER 5.5 bet.
