Isles and Ducks Both in Search of First Win

On a slow night in the NHL, the Ducks travel to Brooklyn in search of their first point of the young season against an Islanders team that is also yet to win. Anaheim had a similar start to their 2015-16 campaign so while they are not happy about the position they are in, they are used to it. Both teams are better than they’ve played so far and no matter how hard they try not to – at least one team will be leaving the ice with points tonight.

SHARK BITES
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Anaheim's last 6 games when playing on the road against NY Islanders.
  • NY Islanders is 0-5 on the puckline in its last 5 games at home.
  • Anaheim is 6-2 on the puckline in its last 8 games on the road.

0-2 is unlikely the start Randy Carlyle wanted to get off to in his second stint as the head coach of the Ducks but that’s where he finds himself. Anaheim’s major problem last year was that they couldn’t score and their two goals per game average so far this season, isn’t blowing anyone away either.

The Islanders swept the season series against the Ducks last season but were lucky enough to play the Quack Pack before the turn of the calendar, when Anaheim really started to heat up. New York will call upon their veteran netminder – no not Rick DiPietro – as Jaroslav Halak looks to improve upon his performance in his first start where he gave up four goals on 38 shots to the rival Rangers.

The Ducks will counter with their young stud John Gibson who – like Halak – is also looking for redemption in his second start of the year. Despite finishing the 2015-16 season with great numbers, Gibson actually struggled on the road and also against Eastern Conference teams. In 14 starts against teams from the East last year, Gibson was 4-8-2 with a .896 save percentage.
