Red-Hot Ducks Begin Road Trip at Pens

Losers of nine of their first 10 games the season, the Anaheim Ducks began the campaign in uncharacteristically poor fashion and many left them for dead. That start seems ages ago, however, as the surging Ducks bring the league’s longest winning streak into Monday’s date with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Shark Bites
  • The Penguins are 1-4 SU in their last five games against the Western Conference.
  • OVER is 4-0-1 in the Ducks’ last five games and 5-1-1 in the Penguins last seven games.
  • The Penguins are 5-0 in their last five games at home.

The Ducks are currently riding a six-game winning streak and are steadily climbing the Pacific Division standings heading into the new week. The aforementioned slow start put them in a deep hole, but the Ducks are currently third in the division, just one point back of the San Jose Sharks and eight back of the Los Angeles Kings.

Pittsburgh, and more specifically Sidney Crosby, have started to round into form as well. The Pens are currently eighth in the division but have gone 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and were enjoying a four-game winning streak before losing 6-3 to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday. Crosby has tallied eight points (five goals, three assists) in three February games alone and is currently tied with Evgeni Malkin for the team lead in points (49). Malkin, who has missed the previous two games with a lower-body injury, is still listed as day-to-day.

Monday begins a stiff test for the Ducks as they embark on a seven game road trip that starts in Pennsylvania (at Pittsburgh, at Philadelphia) and will take them to Columbus, Chicago, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. For a team that is currently sub-.500 away from home, this could be a trip that makes or breaks the Ducks’ postseason aspirations.
