Flames Will Look to Avoid a 28th Straight Loss in Anaheim Tonight

Losing in Anaheim has become more than a trend for the Flames, it’s now a certainty. Their dismal streak against the Ducks dates all the way back to 2006 and after a 4-1 beatdown in Anaheim on April 4, the Flames have now lost 27 consecutive games in Anaheim. Because of that – and other factors – Calgary will be a significant underdog going into tonight’s Game 1 contest against the Ducks.

SHARK BITES
  • The Flames are 1-11 SU in their last 12 games against the Ducks.
  • The Ducks are 7-0 SU in their last 7 games at home against teams with winning records.
  • The Flames are 1-11 SU in their last 12 games in the playoffs on the road.

Historical trends are made to be broken and I by no means take the 27-game streak into serious consideration in my handicapping. I do, however, consider the teams’ last matchup that saw the Ducks absolutely smother the Flames, physically as well as on the scoreboard.

Calgary is a team that likes to get out and skate and Anaheim is incredibly effective at stopping teams from doing that – especially in Anaheim. They gave up the second-fewest goals per game on their home ice this season, meaning the Flames’ scoring chances are likely going to be few and far between this evening.

The Ducks went 10-3-1 against divisional opponents at home in the regular season while the Flames went just 4-10 straight up in that same split but on the road. I have little confidence that the young Flames can get past this experienced Ducks team tonight, or in the series.
