Canes, Caps on NHL lines

It’s been capital domination by Washington with four straight victories over Carolina this season, and the Caps will try to make it five straight when they host the Hurricanes as -185 home favorites on Friday night in NHL betting action.

Washington has been on the winning half of some tightly-contested games of late, but Alex Ovechkin netted a pair as they shut out the Edmonton Oilers 5-0 on Wednesday in a lopsided win. These close games are something bettors should expect again in this matchup, as three of the Capitals' wins have come by one goal over the Hurricanes.

Carolina is in a fight for a playoff spot while the Capitals are attempting to distance themselves from tailgating Tampa Bay, which sits just two points back of Washington in the Southeast. The Hurricanes will need a better goaltending effort to beat the Capitals - but they have stayed in all games thus far in the season series and could provide a profitable payout as a +165 road underdog.

The Capitals are a team that have gone 33-24 SU when they have been labelled as favorites. And, with the Hurricanes' less-than-spectacular 13-29 record as an underdog, it could be the Capitals who are the choice on the NHL betting lines for this head-to-head encounter.

The previous five games between Washington and Carolina have sent UNDER bettors to the payout window and nothing points to a change in that trend.

Montreal will travel to a place where they have always done well, but they will be likely road underdogs in Pittsburgh on Saturday in a key NHL betting matchup. The Canadiens suffered a 5-2 setback to the Penguins at home last meeting.

Both teams are missing key players to injury, but without Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin the Penguins are undeniably more vulnerable. The Canadiens could provide for the best upset wager of the day on the NHL betting lines. They have won the last two in Pittsburgh.

The Penguins lead in most departments, but have had their struggles with Montreal, who are a good betting choice as underdogs - making them winners over half the time.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, has gone an impressive 27-18 as a favorite and won’t go away easily. They are hungry to get closer to the Flyers, who have struggled of late and have a slight lead over the Penguins for first overall in the Eastern Conference.

Both teams have rewarded UNDER bettors in totals wagering more often during the season than many teams in the NHL and it could be another low-scoring affair with all the offense missing due to injuries in the lineups.
