Canucks vs Kings Playoff Odds

The two-time defending President's Trophy-winning Vancouver Canucks begin their quest for a Stanley Cup when they meet up with the Los Angeles Kings for a Western Conference first-round playoff series.

WilliamHill.com is listing Vancouver as a -175 favorite for Wednesday night's series opener (10:30 pm Eastern, CBC, NBCS), with LA getting +155 as the underdog. And the 'over/under' is posted at five (O +125/U -145).

On the NHL futures market Bovada is lining the Canucks as -210 favorites to win this series, with the Kings getting +175 to pull the upset. Bovada is also offering Vancouver at 2/1 to win the Western Conference crown and 5/1 to win the Stanley Cup, while Los Angeles is getting 12/1 to win the West and 22/1 to win the Cup.

Vancouver earned the most points in the NHL for the second consecutive season this year, winning 51 games to claim the top seed in the West. The Canucks ranked fourth in the league in scoring this season and only three teams allowed fewer goals. And they ended the season on a roll, winning eight of their last nine games.

But Vancouver enters this postseason with one big question mark; the health of leading goal-scorer Daniel Sedin, who missed the last nine games after suffering a concussion in mid-March. His status for this series is uncertain.

The Kings, meanwhile, finished third in the Pacific Division, but while they're the eight seed, they only finished two points behind division-champion Phoenix, which is the three seed in the West. LA only scored 194 goals this season, second-fewest in the league, but made up for that by allowing 179 goals, also second-fewest in the league.

Much of that defensive prowess came thanks to G Jonathan Quick,  who fashioned a league-leading 10 shutouts. However, Quick is only 4-8 career in playoff starts.

With their rather anemic offense and tight defense, the Kings went 23-42 on the 'over/unders' this season.

These teams split four games during the regular season, each team winning once on the other's home ice.

Vancouver went 27-10-4 at home this season, while LA went 18-13-10 on the road. Conversely, the Kings went 22-14-5 at home while the Canucks went 24-12-5 on the road.
