Caps are Largest ML Faves of the Season

Washington Capitals Toronto Maple Leafs NHL

On the surface, the meeting between the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs is not exactly the most noteworthy matchup on Wednesday’s slate, but it does present one interesting morsel of information, especially for puck bettors.

Lines for Wednesday’s tilt hit the board at online shop Bovada earlier and if the Capitals’ moneyline price holds firm, it will make them the largest favorite of the season to date. At the time of writing, the Caps are -330 in moneyline markets while the lowly Leafs are +265.

The previous moneyline high was, once again, these Capitals, who skated to a 3-2 victory on home ice priced at -285 against the Maple Leafs back on November 7.

Entering Wednesday’s action, the Caps boast a league-high 96 points – 44 more than the Maple Leafs who sport the NHL’s lowest points total (52).

Moneyline favorites of -250 or more are 6-0 SU this season and the Capitals are 2-0 in such spots, thus making them - and any fave north of that price - a good candidate for parlay tickets.

If you think wagering the puckline might present much better value, well, you would be right. The Caps are currently -1.5 faves at -110. Still, in those six games with a favorite of -250 or greater, only three won by two or more goals; one of which was the Capitals, who posted a 5-3 win over the New Jersey Devils back on October 10.

One thing that warrants mention is that backup netminder Phillip Grubauer will be getting start between the pipes tonight, according to Chuck Gormley of CSNmidatlantic.com. One has to wonder how high Washington’s price would soar if it was Vezina candidate Braden Holtby getting the call.

There is no doubt that the Capitals will be popular on parlay cards tonight and with the favorite going a perfect 9-0 in the previous nine meetings between these two teams, it seems like a smart option.
