Tampa Bay has Been Taking Carolina to Task

Don’t look now but the Lightning are making a push for the playoffs and with the clock ticking on the trade deadline, Tampa sits just five points out of the final wild-card spot. Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov have been great leaders for the Bolts in lieu of Steven Stamkos and they've driven their team to three wins in their last four games.

SHARK BITES
  • The Lightning are 8-1-1 against the Hurricanes in their last 10 matchups.
  • The Hurricanes have lost 7 of their last 8 games.
  • Hedman and Kucherov have combined for 16 points in the Bolts’ last 5 games.

For a while, it looked like Carolina could climb back into the race but with the Hurricanes’ recent run of games sealing their fate for the 2016-17 season, the remainder of the year will be used to give ample playing time to their many prospects. Since the break, the Canes are averaging just 1.9 goals per game and during their last eight-game stretch, they’ve been shut out twice.

This is an excellent opportunity for the surging Lightning to gain ground on the idle teams in the Atlantic Division and for bettors, it could be a good time to grab the Lightning on the puckline. Four of the Bolts’ last five wins have cashed puckline bets and three of those hits came when Tampa was a -1.5 goal favorite.

Considering how the Bolts have dominated the Canes in recent years, and given how hot they’re running on their home ice, I’d feel more than comfortable backing the Lightning to win by at least two goals tonight.
