The Ducks will look for the first home win of the best-of-seven this evening, and the advantage in the series, when they host the Oilers as moneyline favorites. The underdog is 4-0 so far in this one but the Ducks have really been the better team for long stretches. They’ve outshot the Oilers in every game and have gotten the much more consistent goaltending.
If the Oilers are to send this thing back to Oil country with the lead, Cam Talbot has to be better. It really is as simple as that. When Talbot is good, the Oilers win and when he’s not, they lose. Edmonton is 0-3 straight up this postseason when their No. 1 netminder posts a save percentage under .900 and 6-1 SU when he stops more than 90 percent of the shots he sees.
So, can he keep the Oilers in the game tonight? That’s the real question here. Talbot made five starts against the Ducks in the regular season and he posted a .902 save percentage in those appearances – not great. Anaheim seems to have Cam’s number and now that he’s made 83 starts since the beginning of the regular season, it’s tough to see that trend changing.
I expect the Ducks to get up early in this contest and, with a more than capable set of forwards led by the magical Connor McDavid, the Oilers should be able to battle back. This game should easily go OVER and, really, the Ducks could get there themselves.
