Flyers vs. Caps on NHL lines

The Philadelphia Flyers look to extend their conference lead and win a third straight game on Tuesday as -145 home favorites in NHL betting action against the struggling Washington Capitals.

Washington (+125) has dropped four of six and the last time these teams met it was the Capitals who owned the conference lead - while the Flyers are now within a point of Vancouver in the overall NHL standings. Philadelphia has to stay out of the box as it scores nearly a goal a game more than the Capitals when five-on-five.

Washington managed to snap a three-game skid against the lowly Senators on Sunday - and with such a good start to the year they are still tied atop the Southeast Division. Philadelphia, meanwhile, has taken six of their last seven contests and the smart money could be with the streaking Flyers.

Sportsbooks don’t seem to be taking into account the lack of scoring by the Capitals, and with the majority of their games paying out to UNDER bettors a wager on the UNDER on a posted total of 6 for this game seems to be a wise bet.

Alexander Ovechkin hasn’t tallied a point in three games, but his success against the Flyers should bring about confidence for bettors in search of a good underdog wager. The Capitals split a pair of games with the Flyers in November - with both games needing extra time, and one going to a shootout.

It is conceivable despite the Washington scoring woes that they could provide good value as a road underdog. The Capitals' better power play and penalty-killing will need to be in true form if it is to pull off the upset in NHL betting action.

It will be a light night for NHL betting action on Wednesday, but an Original Six matchup between the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs and home favorite New York Rangers should make it a popular betting choice.

The Maple Leafs will be road underdogs at Madison Square Garden, but they did defeat the Rangers earlier this season in the Big Apple. The Rangers have won three of four against Toronto, who have lost back-to-back since a five-game road win streak.

With Leaf netminders sporting a dismal 3.00 goals-against average, its solid  power play will need to flourish if they hope to escape with another road upset.  The Rangers are just 11-10-2 at home, and have lost three of four overall.

This could be the moment to strike with the Maple Leafs playing well on the road, and underdog seekers could get good value on this wager on the NHL betting lines.

Both teams have made winners of UNDER bettors in back-to-back meetings.
