Jackets, Stars on NHL lines

Dallas will go for a second straight victory and attempt to get closer to a playoff spot when they host the struggling road underdog Columbus Blue Jackets in NHL betting action Tuesday night.

The home favorite Stars are coming off a morale-boosting 4-3 win over high-flying Anaheim, and with a victory over the Jackets and a Chicago loss they would move to within a point of the Hawks in the standings. Dallas leads over Columbus in the goal scoring department and allows fewer goals per game than their opponents.

Dallas needs to exploit the Blue Jackets' lack of depth, especially without sniper Rick Nash in the lineup. The Stars have a very respectable home record at 20-11-8 this season and should be the popular choice on the NHL betting lines.

Columbus (34-32-13) has lost seven of its last eight games, but could be worth a gamble as a road underdog. They won two of three head-to-head against the Stars this season and their only loss to them was by one goal. The Blue Jackets are also 4-1-1 in the last six games in the Lone Star State.

UNDER bettors will be salivating at making a totals wager with eight straight between Dallas and Columbus sending them to the payout window.

Carolina will try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they host Detroit as a likely small home favorite on Wednesday in a key NHL betting matchup.

The Hurricanes need a win as they trail the New York Rangers in the race for the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. They will have to play better against a Red Wings team they have failed to figure out.

Detroit is just 5-3-2 in its last 10 games, and for a team that ranks second in the conference it could be a little better. The Red Wings dominate Carolina, winning eight of the last 10 head-to-head. And they also dominate statistically in every category that matters.

The Red Wings have garnered more wins on the road than at home this season and that should bode well for them with bettors as they will be the clear favorite on the NHL betting lines.

Carolina is coming off a tough 2-1 loss at Buffalo, ending a three-game win streak that included a victory over conference co-leader Washington. Detroit has won its last two, but surrendered 10 goals in a rout at the hands of St. Louis last week and that should have them concerned. Three of their last four games have made winners of UNDER bettors in totals betting.
