Minnesota Wild Braden Holtby Washington Capitals NHL

Languid Wild Hope to Avoid 3-Game Skid

Whether in the win or loss column, hockey teams do not get streakier than the Minnesota Wild lately. The struggling Central Division club will look to avert a three-game losing streak when they visit the Washington Capitals Friday evening.

Shark Bites
  • The Wild are 1-4 SU in their last five games vs the Capitals in Washington.
  • The Wild are 1-8 SU in their last nine games vs teams with a winning record.
  • The Capitals are 17-3 SU in their last 20 games at home.

The Wild followed up an eight-game losing skid with a nice four-game winning streak but have now lost back-to-back games and have two of the Eastern Conference’s best on deck. After Friday’s meeting with the Caps, they host the Florida Panthers Sunday.

During the recent win streak, the Wild were firing on all cylinders, averaging over five goals scored per game and posting a margin of victory of 3.25 per game. That has come to a screeching halt, however, as the team has managed just three goals in the two losses since.

The Capitals, the NHL’s best team by some margin with 92 points entering Friday’s slate of games, are coming off an embarrassing loss of their own in their last time out. Netminder and Vezina Trophy frontrunner Braden Holtby was pulled after allowing three goals on 18 shots in a 4-3 defeat to the lowly Montreal Canadiens back on Wednesday.

If Holtby does indeed get the start Friday, he will look to build on already-solid numbers versus the Wild in his career. In six appearances versus Minnesota, the Caps' puck stopper has gone 4-2 with a 2.32 goals against average and .918 save percentage.
