Canadiens on the Brink of Elimination After Faltering in Game 5

Putting forth just a dismal effort in the late stages of the swing game in Montreal on Thursday night, the Canadiens enter Madison Square Garden today trying to stay alive in the series. Sportsbooks opened the Habs as a very slight underdog but it’s more than likely they’ll close as the moneyline favorites. Montreal have everything on the line this evening and as has been discussed ad nauseam – the Rangers suck at home.

SHARK BITES
  • The Rangers are 3-9 SU in their last 12 games at home.
  • The visiting team is 9-1 on the puckline in the last 10 games in this matchup.
  • The OVER/UNDER is 2-14-4 in the Rangers’ last 20 playoff games at home.

That last shark bite is one hell of a trend. Just two UNDERs in 20 games? That’s a pretty good indication of how the Blueshirts like to play at MSG in the postseason and with two of the best goalies in the world going head-to-head once again – in a series that’s seen just one OVER – you’d be a crazy person to not bet the UNDER 5.

Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist have both played commendably for their respective teams but King Henrik has been the best player on the ice. He has a .944 save percentage in the series and he made a few massive saves in Game 5 to help the Rangers steal the win in Montreal. One stop where he stoned Max Pacioretty on a clear breakaway to keep the game tied at twos in the third period was the biggest play of the game – other than the OT Sportsbook – but it was an amalgam of Patches’ playoff frustrations. The Habs’ skipper has just one point this postseason and if he doesn’t break out of his slump – he probably won’t be getting any more burgers named after him.

New York was the better team at the end of the third period and into overtime so they’ll have all the momentum going into Game 6. I think they grab a lead in the first and collapse everybody at their own end to protect the lead. I’ll be looking at a Rangers’ first period moneyline wager that can be had at a price of EVEN or better.
