Julien Getting the Canadiens' Ship Turned Around

With 84 points so far, the fourth-place Rangers are ahead of the division leaders in both the Pacific and the Atlantic. Montreal, the team on top of the Atlantic, will head to the Big Apple tonight with the Habs looking for their fifth straight win as they go up against a Rangers squad that has seriously slowed down at the offensive end.

SHARK BITES
  • Carey Price has stopped 82 of the last 85 shots he’s faced.
  • The Canadiens are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games against the Rangers.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of the Canadiens' last 8 games.

It’s clear that Claude Julien is making a big difference in the City of Saints. Since the former Bruins’ bench boss took over head coaching duties in Montreal, the team is 5-2-0 and has allowed an average of just two goals per game. They’ve managed to extend their lead in the Atlantic after it looked like they would give it up to Ottawa but it’s games like tonight they’ll need to get a point from if they want to hold off the Sens.

As for the Rangers, they’ve been having trouble scoring of late, getting just five goals from their last three games. That’s something out of the ordinary for the Blueshirts as they’ve been a top five goal-scoring team since very early on. The Canadiens are not a team you want to run into when you’re struggling to score and with how they managed to slow down the Predators on Thursday, I’ll be siding with the UNDER this evening.

Prior to the Habs’ and Preds’ meeting two days ago, Nashville had scored five goals in all of its last three games and Filip Forsberg had 10 goals in his previous five contests. Montreal held the streaking Swede to just two shots on goal and managed to keep the game between the blue lines for most of the night.
