Canadiens are Taking Care of Business Against Losing Teams

Montreal is starting to look like the only team in the Atlantic Division with the ability to win a playoff series but the Canadiens will have to improve on the road if they hope to have any chance against the mammoths in the Metropolitan. Carey Price and the Habs will have a chance to figure things out at the Wells Fargo Center tonight when they take on a Flyers team that’s fighting for one of the two Eastern Conference wild-card spots.

SHARK BITES
  • Carey Price is 6-5-2 on the road with a .910 save percentage this season.
  • The Flyers are 1-5 SU in their last 6 games against teams with winning records.
  • The Canadiens are 8-3 SU in their last 11 games against teams with losing records.

The Flyers took a three-game winning streak into the all-star break but got absolutely embarrassed by the Canes in their first game back. One of the most penalized teams in the league, they took seven penalties in that game and paid for it twice. With an 80.6 kill rate, the Flyers aren’t great down a man and will be in trouble if they take too many penalties tonight – Montreal has the third-best power play in the NHL that’s even better on the road.

Despite these factors, the Canadiens have just given up too many goals on the road (2.88 per game) to be successful away from the Bell Centre. Carey Price has always preferred to play in front of his home crowd but if he ever hopes to become a Stanley Cup champion, he’ll have to get over the road woes.

Like I’ve been writing for the last few days, I’m going to be riding OVERs until the league scoring levels off. Since the end of the all-star break, the OVER/UNDER record for the league is a combined 13-2-2 and that’s a trend I like.
