Montreal GM odds heat up
They posted odds just this week on whether Patrick Roy would become the next coach or GM of the Montreal Canadiens.
And now those Habs GM odds are heating up with today’s announcement that Pierre Gauthier has been fired.
Bovada posted odds earlier this week and their timing seems prescient today. With Gauthier out, the odds on Roy – the Hall of Fame goalie who led the team to a pair of Stanley Cups – coming ‘home’ are all the rage.
The ‘yes’ answer to the question, will he be the team’s general manager to start next season, was 3/2. The ‘no’ reply was favored at 1/2.
The odds were better that Roy, who coached and served as GM of the Major Junior Quebec Remparts, would be the coach (4/7 odds).
"Expect those odds to change quickly as news reports leak out the next few days, so bettors with an opinion should check out the lines now," said Mike Pickett of OddsShark.com.
Also included in the coaching mix was former Colorado Avalanche head coach Bob Hartley, a francophone who was rumoured as a candidate earlier this month.
Now will the axe no longer swinging over Gauthier, the team gets down to the task of picking a GM. Team owner Geoff Molson said today the new GM will decide on the coach.
